We had a great time last year and the weather was perfect. Despite the downturn in the economy, together we raised $38,000 for STARS. Thank you so much for your willingness to play golf, do good for such a wonderful organization.
The exclusive and beautiful Black Creek Golf Course is once again the site of the 14th annual Judy Wilson Memorial STARS Benefit Golf Tournament. Scheduled for Monday, August 16, this event is a great opportunity for the business community to enjoy a day of golfing at this scenic course while benefiting students. There are morning and afternoon rounds. So, choose the one that best fits your work schedule. Together, we can make a difference.
Support of this event means making a difference in the lives of area elementary, middle, and high school youth. The money raised by this event allows STARS the opportunity to send teachers into the schools to teach imperative skills that equip students to handle various life issues that may arise. This in turn helps youth to become better students which translates ultimately into becoming successful citizens. As life issues are so very complex for adolescents and teens, STARS teaches skills in conflict resolution and drug education. STARS also provides support services for students struggling with specific issues such as anger, grief, stress, etc. Peer mediation allows students the art of resolving conflicts that arise between peers; and leadership development is a means of applauding and honing the skills for future leaders.
In 2002, this tournament was named as a memorial to Judy P. Wilson, the first STARS executive director. Judy was an incredible person whose energy and love of life translated into a passion to help youth make good choices. Judy led the campaign to include elementary students in STARS prevention efforts and focused on developing peer mediation training for the secondary level. Judy lost her courageous battle with cancer in 2001 but the effects of her leadership remain strong today.
In a society where life issues can become overwhelming to our youth, STARS works along-side youth to help them succeed. STARS is making a huge difference in the lives of area youth in Hamilton County, Bradley County/Cleveland, and Marion County communities.
There are many different sponsor levels to choose from. So, TVFCU encourages you to play golf and do good.
